KUALA LUMPUR: Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd has appointed Datuk Abdul Jalil Abdul Karim as its new managing director effective immediately.

Abdul Jalil, 55, takes over the reins from Datuk Zainal Abidin Salleh, who resigned due to health reasons. Abdul Jalil was previously the chief executive officer (CEO) of Merge Energy Bhd.

According to Puncak Niaga's filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Abdul Jalil brings with him more than 30 years of extensive working experience in project consultancy, management and construction in water- and sewerage-related industries since 1987, including at senior and board levels at reputable local and foreign companies.

"Abdul Jalil was involved in various water supply projects, including Sungai Selangor (Phase 1), the Sungai Johor WTP's (water treatment plant) privatisation, Sungai Semangar WTP (Phase 1), non-revenue water reduction in Syabas (Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd) Phase 2 and Phase 3, Panching WTP, Kuantan (Package 2), 160MLD (million litres per day) Ganchong WTP (Package 1) in Pekan and other small-scale water supply projects in Malaysia," it said.

Puncak Niaga's share price ended half a sen or 1.89% higher at 27 sen yesterday, valuing the group at RM120.76 million.
