KUALA LUMPUR: DAP lawmaker Tony Pua recorded his statement with the police yesterday afternoon over his tweet last week in which he said “Royal my foot” about the force.

The Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament (MP) is being investigated under the Sedition Act.

His lawyer Gobind Singh Deo said the police did not detain Pua, but only took his statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

“He wasn’t called up, but he has to communicate with ASP Chay, the IO (investigating officer).

“The probe is still underway under the Sedition Act,” said Gobind, who is Puchong MP.

Pua, who is DAP national publicity secretary, arrived at the police headquarters at about 1pm yesterday, accompanied by Gobind and fellow DAP lawmakers Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng and Kulai MP Teo Nie Cheng.

Pua reportedly tweeted the words early last week on Twitter after Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was arrested overnight by the police for investigations.

The tweet, which prompted a response from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who confirmed that Pua would be called up by the police to explain the tweet.

The IGP tweeted: “@PDRMsia akan panggil YB ini menjelaskan apa maksud beliau dgn ‘Royal my foot’. Adakah ditujukan kepada Raja2 Melayu?” (@PDRMsia will call up this YB to explain what he meant by ‘Royal my foot’. Was it directed at the Malay rulers?)

However, Pua has since removed his original tweet.

Pua said that his “Royal my foot” expression was not directed at the Malay rulers, but was rather his reaction to Nurul Izzah’s arrest.

“The police have asked for my laptop. I have agreed to let them have it,” he said. — The Malaysian Insider
