SHAH ALAM (July 8): National carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd will introduce three new variants of its existing Perdana, Persona and Saga models by early next year, said its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"We will introduce the three new model (designs) by early next year. It will be new ones. Part of the cars (components) will be in collaboration with Honda," he said when cornered by reporters after breaking fast at Proton's manufacturing facility here today.
As for its latest collaboration with Suzuki, Mahathir said Proton will design the compact cars using Suzuki's drive train.
“We are exploring suitable models that we can design with Suzuki using their technology,” he added.
Proton's parent company DRB-Hicom Bhd had on June 15, 2015 announced that it had signed a collaboration agreement with Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp to manufacture compact cars at Proton's manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak, in the next 16 months.
