KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 16): Proton Holdings Bhd has opened bookings for the second generation of Proton Persona 1.6L VVT, ahead of the model's unveiling on Aug 23, and the early birds will get three years' worth of free service, which comes with parts and labour.

In a statement today, the national carmaker — a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB-Hicom Bhd — said the booking is subject to a fee of RM300, which is refundable in any circumstance.

Proton chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said "to make the launching of this all-new Proton Persona more memorable" and in conjunction with Merdeka Day and Hari Malaysia, the company offers a three-year free service (parts and labour included). The bundled free services will be offered for bookings through Sept 30, 2016.

The indicative prices for the new Proton Persona range from RM47,000 to RM61,000 in Peninsular Malaysia and from RM49,000 to RM63,000 in East Malaysia.

The model comes in three variants, Standard, Executive and Premium, which either come with or without body kit. The six colours offered are Cotton White, Fire Red, Sterling Silver, Graphite Grey, Quartz Black, and a new colour, Carnelian Brown.

"The all-new Proton Persona sports a stylish look with eye-catching design from every vantage point such as its bold and attractive face, stylish headlamp with smart lighting as well as rear spoilers, all-round sensors, and 15" alloy wheels as well as electric headlamp levelling.

"All these make the new car more refined, smooth and better value for money," Proton said in the statement.

The company said the new Proton Persona is the second generation of the Persona family that was introduced in 2007. Sporting a "sporty and executive" theme, the new Proton Persona is powered by a 1.6L VVT engine for better fuel economy and the first Proton car to have an ECO Drive Assist Indicator.

At the noon break, DRB-Hicom shares fell by two sen or 1.54% to RM1.28 with 2.45 million shares traded.
