KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): The producer price index (PPI) for local production decreased 2.4 per cent in September 2019 to 105.3 as against 107.9 in the same month of the preceding year, due to the decline in the mining index which fell 14.4 per cent, followed by water supply (-2.8 per cent), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-1.1 per cent) and manufacturing (-1.0 per cent) indices.

The index of electricity and gas supply, however, rose 1.3 per cent, the Statistics Department said in a statement.

“On a monthly basis, the PPI local production rose 0.7 per cent in September 2019, supported by the mining (6.0 per cent) and manufacturing (0.3 per cent) indices.

Conversely, electricity and gas supply and agriculture, forestry and fishing indices decreased 0.9 per cent and 0.7 per cent respectively,” it said.

When compared on a quarterly basis, the PPI local production for the third quarter decreased 2.1 per cent to 104.8 as compared to 107.1 in the same quarter of the previous year, contributed by mining (-11.8 per cent), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-2.9 per cent), water supply (-2.8 per cent) and manufacturing (-1.0 per cent) indices.
