KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Private equity firm Creador's first close of fifth flagship investment vehicle - Creador V - has raised US$500 million (RM2.1 billion), which is the firm's biggest close to date that occurred four months after its first invited investors on board in March 2021, according to sources familiar with the matter.

"The fundraising was unique in that it was done without the benefit of in-person meetings as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic," a source said.

The source added that almost all existing Creador IV investors opted to invest in its fifth flagship investment vehicle, reflecting their confidence in the performance of the firm's previous funds.

With this strong interest from both existing and new investors, the source said Creador expects to achieve the hardcap of US$680 million (RM2.85 billion) by the end of 2021.

The fifth fund will bring the firm's total assets under management to more than US$2 billion (RM8.4 billion), noted the source, adding that the private equity has a strong pipeline of new deals as part of this new fund, of which the first three will be announced in August 2021.

It previously reported that Creador aimed to raise US$600 million for this fifth fund with plans to invest in Thailand, a new region for the firm.
