KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): Press Metal Bhd is upbeat on the outlook for 2015 as aluminium prices are set to continue rising in the near term on the tighter market, said its CEO Datuk Koon Poh Keong.

Koon said that the use of aluminium in the construction and automotive sectors as well as the rising price of aluminium globally will ensure that Press Metal's future prospects will be healthy.

"Press Metal expects that global aluminium price to rise to US$2200 a tonne in 2015, compared with an average of US$2000 per tonne this year," he told a press conference after the group's extraordinary general meeting today.

At the current price level, Koon said the Southeast Asia's biggest aluminium smelter is enjoying a sale premium of US$400 per tonne this year, double that of 2013.

As its premium is expected to continue increasing, Koon said the group will shift more of its focus towards doubling its production of value-added aluminium products for the automotive a sector to drive future earnings.
