KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has accused a 'former leader' of lying about Malaysia facing bankruptcy, saying the multi billion-dollar deal with Saudi Aramco deal was "almost wrecked" by fake news.
"In fact, he knows he is telling lies," he said at the Global Transformation Forum here today.
"Would Saudi Aramco be making one of its largest investments in a country that is going bankrupt?” Najib asked of the Saudi Arabian oil giant's $6 billion investment in Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor.
"The running down of Malaysia is nothing less than economic sabotage for selfish, political gain," he added.
"Unfortunately, the governments opponents here in Malaysia often prefer not to engage with us on facts," he said.
He added that ordinary Malaysians would suffer, not opposition politicians, if perception of the country is affected abroad.
