KUALA LUMPUR (June 28): PLUS Malaysia Bhd has appointed its non-independent director Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab. Latif as its new chairman effective yesterday.

Nasir will replace Tan Sri Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim, who opted for retirement after almost 17 years of leading Plus, according to a statement from the highway concessionaire today.

"Tan Sri Sheriff was a former chairman of PLUS Expressways International Bhd before being appointed chairman of the PLUS Group on Feb 24, 2012," said the statement.

"Throughout the period, Tan Sri Sheriff has successfully led and [driven] the PLUS group to become a high performing organization and remains as the best in class highway concessionaire nationally and internationally.

"A charismatic leader in every sense of the word, Tan Sri is always committed to drive the organization forward," said Plus managing director Datuk Azman Ismail.

Meanwhile, Nasir is currently the chief investment officer in Employees Provident Fund.

He is currently a board member of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd, Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd, Yinson Holdings Bhd, BBCC Development Sdn Bhd, Yarra Park City Pty Ltd, PNB-Kwasa International Holding Ltd, PNB-Kwasa International 1 Ltd and PNB-Kwasa International 2 Ltd.

"He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science (Economics) from Universiti Sains Malaysia and obtained a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1996.

"He also holds a Master of Science in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling, United Kingdom (1999)," said the statement.
