KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19): Malaysia's asset management firm Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd today celebrated its silver jubilee in the industry with a track record of delivering outstanding and consistent returns.

Guided by Pheim's own investment philosophy of "never fully invest at all times", the firm has managed to weather through all major crises over the past 25 years and believes this philosophy will serve it well for the next 25 years.

Its investment philosophy, together with investment criteria and process, helps the firm navigate through volatile Asian markets. Pheim seeks to trim its equity exposure when it is believed that the market is near its peak in order to preserve capital. Conversely, Pheim seeks to increase its equity exposure when it is believed that the market is near its bottom.

"It intends to draw on its knowledge, research, and experience of the region and apply the well-proven Pheim investment philosophy to enhance its performance through searching for hidden gems within the region," Dr Tan Chong Koay, founder and chief strategist of Pheim, said at the firm's 25th anniversary celebration here.

Looking ahead, Tan said Pheim favours the Asia ex-Japan region, particularly the Asean region as it is one of the fastest growing regions in the world.

The potential of Asean cannot be understated. Although five times the population size of Taiwan and South Korea combined, the total market capitalisation of Asean is smaller than those of the two countries combined, showing that there is plenty of room to grow in the capital markets given that there is no shortage of talent and entrepreneurs.
