KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): The Pakatan Harapan Secretariat Council has called for the government to consider limiting the purchase of basic necessities to ensure adequate quantity for everyone.

“The council takes note on the issue of basic necessities during the movement control order (MCO), particularly on panic-buying, profiteering and the available stock in the markets,” it said in a statement today.

The opposition council proposed to enforce the purchase limitation the way it was done during the sales period where the market puts a limit on the quantity of a product available per customer.

“The government can enforce the purchase limit with the purview of the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, under the Supply Control Act 1961,” it said.

“Pakatan Harapan urges the federal government not to delay and promptly impose a purchase limit on basic necessities to ensure the food security for everyone, especially during the MCO,” it said.
