PUTRAJAYA (May 9): The Pakatan Harapan Government is “quite optimistic” that Malaysia would achieve GDP economic growth as strong as 4.9% in 2019, said Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“Looking at the latest statistics of foreign direct investments (FDIs) and domestic direct investments (DDIs), (the statistics) are very positive. That shows the level of confidence is back in the system. We should be able to retain the targeted growth,” said Azmin, after the Pakatan Harapan Government’s first year anniversary event here this afternoon.

When asked if there will be more mega projects in the pipeline this year, Azmin said the administration has started some initiatives.

“Initially as mentioned by the Prime Minister, we reviewed all the mega projects.”

“We want to set our priorities right because at that point in time we didn't have the capacity to continue. Now Alhamdulillah the economy is back on track and we should be able to continue with some of the major infrastructure projects,” said Azmin.

Noting that infrastructure is very important and public transportation is also crucial, Azmin said the Government still has to set the priorities right.

“We must make sure that governance is in place, so that there will be no corruption and the whole process must be transparent and above board,” he said.
