KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): Petroleum companies will study the upgrade of biodiesel blending facilities at 35 petroleum terminals across Malaysia to be ready to implement B30 biodiesel plan, says Primary Industries minister Teresa Kok.
*Study will cost RM35m and be completed in next few months
* Malaysian Palm Oil Board to work with Petronas Dagangan, Shell Malaysia, Petron, Chevron Malaysia, and Boustead on engineering designs to cater for higher biodiesel blends of B20 and B30
* Cost of upgrade works to be determined after the study with petroleum cos. and govt deciding how to fund the upgrades
* Malaysia is committed to implement B20 biodiesel mandate in stages starting from January, to be fully completed by June 2021
* Ministry in serious discussion with finance ministry to subsidize biodiesel blending when palm oil prices trade above diesel by setting up biodiesel stabilization fund
** Govt considers using part of 3% windfall tax on plantations cos., which is imposed when prices trade above RM2,500, for biodiesel subsidies
