KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): A property cooperative board of directors' chairman was charged at the Sessions Court here today with 58 counts of money laundering totalling RM9.22 million.

Datuk Mansor Musa, 58, a former one-term Batu Maung assemblyman from 2004 to 2008, claimed trial to all the charges which were read to him before Judge Suzana Hussin.

All the charges are framed under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA 2001) and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFAPUAA 2001).

The suspect allegedly accepted bribes from a director of a developer, with the title Tan Sri, in return for appointing the developer's company for a joint venture project carried out on a cooperative-owned land for development purposes.

Earlier this week, Mansor was also charged in the Sessions Court in Penang with a whopping 106 counts of money laundering totalling more than RM11 million.

The offences under AMLATFA carries a jail term not exceeding five years' or a fine of maximum RM5 million, or both, upon conviction.

The offences under AMLATFPUAA carry a jail term not exceeding 15 years and a fine of at least five times the sum obtained from money laundering or RM5 million, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The judge allowed the accused to be let out on bail amounting to RM200,000 with one surety.

She also set July 26 for case management.
