KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): Parliament's special select committee for consideration of bills postponed the tabling of its recommendations for improvements to the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) Bill 2019 to Nov 25 from Nov 18.

The Dewan Rakyat order paper today showed that the Prime Minister's Department moved a motion for the delay, saying the special select committee requires time to consider issues of public concern more thoroughly and in depth before preparing and presenting its findings to the House.

"This meeting decided to extend the date for this special election committee to present a statement containing recommendations for improvement to the bill to the House no later than Monday, Nov 25, 2019," the motion read.

Last Sunday, the special select committee's chairman Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor) reportedly said the feedback received during the fourth and final session of public hearing on the IPCMC Bill has been positive and encouraging.

The DAP lawmaker also reportedly said the feedback received at hearings conducted in Sarawak, Penang, Johor, and Sabah, beginning Oct 26, comprised supportive views and some suggestions as well as of those that were against the establishment of the IPCMC.
