KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd announced today that 116 employees at both of its manufacturing facilities in Shah Alam had tested positive for Covid-19 in a recent screening.

According to Panasonic's filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the company had completed full screening of about 2,137 workers and employees, and only 116 were found to be affected.

The Petaling district Health office advised Panasonic to cease its operations for the time being until further notice. 

Following the advice, Panasonic decided to close its facilities from today to Wednesday to allow disinfection specialists to carry out their work.

“The safety and well-being of our workers and employees as well as our community is of our utmost priority towards containing the situation. We have and will continue to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive standard operating procedures (SOPs) on a stringent basis,” said Panasonic.

Panasonic also said disinfection exercises had been conducted regularly on its manufacturing premises and workers' accommodation, with all the necessary precautionary measures strictly in place.

At the time of writing today, Panasonic's share price was four sen or 0.32% lower at RM31.50, bringing the company’s market capitalisation to about RM1.92 billion.
