KUALA LUMPUR (April 20): The ruler of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has stressed that the palace will remain neutral and will not take sides with any political party in the country during the 14th General Election next month.

In a statement issued on the Sultan's behalf by his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani today, the ruler said he did not have any ties with any politics and remained outside state as well as national political affairs.

He reiterated that as ruler he is above politics and should not be seen as supporting any political party.

The Sultan said he respects the right of the people to elect their representatives in line with parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy as practised in Malaysia.

The Sultan also reminded citizens, particularly in Selangor, to not create situations that could lead to disturbances during the forthcoming general election.
