KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has yet to receive any preliminary report from the Auditor-General on the audit of the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

"It has been only a few weeks ... we have not received any report (from the Auditor-General)," said PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed at a press conference today.

Nur Jazlan was asked if the Auditor-General has submitted any preliminary report to the PAC after being instructed to independently verify the 1MDB accounts.

On plans by PAC to meet with the Auditor-General this week to ensure there is no overlap between its hearings on 1MDB and the Auditor-General’s audit, Jazlan said this has yet to take place.

"But I think the (Auditor-General) is coming to PAC to table the Auditor-General Report 2014 (Series 1) next Monday and we are hoping to discuss with him on this," said Nur Jazlan.

Last Tuesday, PAC announced that it would meet up with the Auditor-General this week to ensure there is no overlap in their investigations and audit on 1MDB.

PAC was then hoping to begin its hearings “as soon as possible”, even before the Auditor-General report is completed because of the public interest in 1MDB.

To recap, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had on March 4 instructed the Auditor-General to independently verify the 1MDB accounts.

Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang had also said that the National Audit Department has started an audit of 1MDB soon after being instructed to do so by Najib.

Ambrin had then said that the audit process would be carried out without setting any time frame.

He also noted that no specific date had been set for the 1MDB audit report to be submitted to the PAC.

“Nevertheless, every effort will be made to have the report ready as soon as possible,” said Ambrin.
