KUALA LUMPUR: Japan-based OKI Data Corp is acquiring the wide-format printer business of Seiko Instruments Inc (SII).

In a statement, OKI said the company and SII signed a stock-purchase agreement on July 8. Under the deal, OKI is acquiring the entire stake in SII’s printer business unit, Seiko I Infotech Inc (SIIT).

“Furthermore, OKI Data Corp’s overseas subsidiaries in Europe and the United States each signed asset purchase agreements with SII’s European and US group companies to acquire the wide-format printer business and assets currently held by SII in Europe and the US.

“The parties will complete the business transfer on Oct 1. The transaction will not affect the various products and services currently provided by SIIT, including products and services related to wide-format printers,” OKI said.

OKI sees the high value-added printer business as a major growth area and important target business segment, and is focusing on the professional printer market.
