Number of Covid-19 infections in Lembah Pantai nears 500

KUALA LUMPUR (April 13): There were no new red zones recorded as of noon yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Based on the infographics provided by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, the number of red zones is still 26, but since April 1, when Covid-19 cases totalled 2,908, until yesterday, the number of infections have gone up by 1,775 or 38%.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases in Selangor’s red zones amount to 1,162, accounting for 25% of the country’s total (4,683), while Kuala Lumpur had 803 new confirmed infections, or 17%.

Lembah Pantai continues to be the district with the highest number of confirmed infections in Peninsular Malaysia — 496 cases — and there are 247 new confirmed infections since April 1.

Other districts with red zones which exceed 100 cases are Hulu Langat with 388 cases, Petaling (356), Seremban (219), Kluang (193), Johor Bahru (177), Klang (172), Gombak (132), Kepong (121) and Titiwangsa (115).

The red zones with less than 100 cases include Kinta (93), Kota Bharu (89), Kuantan (80), Cheras (71), Jerantut (70) Jasin (68), Sepang (66), Hilir Perak (64), Rembau (53), Putrajaya (52) and Batu Pahat (51), while Hulu Selangor and Melaka Tengah have 48 cases respectively.

In East Malaysia, Kuching has recorded 221 new cases, Tawau has 71 cases and Kota Samarahan has 49.

As of yesterday, the daily Covid-19 infections in Malaysia exceeded the daily recoveries, which stood at 153. The total recoveries now stands at 2,108 or 45% of the total Covid-19 cases.

Of the 153 cases, 68 were in intensive care units, with 37 of them needing breathing assistance.

The death toll stood at 76 cases, or 1.62% of the total, after three new fatalities were reported.
