(July 8): Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today said that nobody is above the law, amidst allegations that state linked funds had been transferred into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal accounts.

The Defence Minister said that the special task force that was formed to investigate the allegations in The Wall Street Journal report, comprised capable individuals.

"Nobody can put themselves above the law, but let the law take its due course," he told reporters during a buka puasa function in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Sembrong MP said that the cabinet has decided that the special task force should be allowed to carry on with its job.

"The Cabinet has decided to allow those who are tasked with this to carry out their duties," he said.

The Umno supreme council member said that Putrajaya did not want to take action against whistleblower site Sarawak Report because they received negative reaction from the people.

"But we can't keep quite any longer, for it involves national interest," he said.

Hishammuddin also did not rule out legal action against the London-based website.

"The people trust them. But it involves national interest and we need to put a limit on what's acceptable," he said.

Sarawak Report before this had published several exposes on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the wealth of former Sarawak chief minister Tun Taib Mahmud. – The Malaysian Insider
