SINGAPORE (Oct 24): Arm yourself with knowledge in Cloud and Distributed Computing, and you will be virtually employable anywhere in the world.

For the second year in the row, this remains the most sought-after skill by employers both globally and in Singapore, according to LinkedIn’s Top Skills 2016 ranking, which reflects current trends in job markets based on LinkedIn data.

While skills highlighted on Singapore’s list have remained relatively constant from that of last year, global rankings indicate more drastic movements which may indicate the effects of disruption and growth cycles across industries.

For example, although SEO/SEM Marketing kept its second place on the list for top skills in Singapore, the category fell five places down globally to ninth position.

Public Policy and International Relations ranks third in Singapore, but does not have a place in the top 10 rankings on LinkedIn Global.

Marketing Campaign Management, which remains unmoved at the sixth spot in Singapore’s industry, has notably failed to make it to the top 10 list globally, despite being ranked third last year.

Technical skills appear to clearly dominate the global list this year, with Statistical Analysis and Data Mining, as well as Web Architecture and Development Framework being ranked second and third respectively.

“While tech, marketing and business skills are key today, it is important that professionals have a mind-set of continuous learning to increase their future employability,” says Olivier Legrand, managing director and vice president, Asia Pacific and Japan at LinkedIn.

“We hope this year’s most sought after skills on LinkedIn can shed light on how companies can train and re-skill their talent for the future, amidst increased technological disruption,” he adds.

From today until Oct 30, LinkedIn is offering more than 5,000 online courses free to its members through its Week of Learning programme, including those that teach the Top Skills of 2016.
