KUALA LUMPUR: Former PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said it would be difficult for the party to retract its motion to cut ties with DAP, saying this would give an impression that PAS leaders were only interested in winning positions.

“I don’t know how the Shura Council and the Ulama (clerics) wing can retract this after having the motion accepted at the muktamar (general assembly),” Mahfuz told reporters at the parliament lobby yesterday. “If we do, PAS’ image will be affected. They will say, what is this? First they want to cut ties, then now they don’t,” said Mahfuz, who did not retain his vice-president post in the recent PAS elections.

Mahfuz was commenting yesterday on PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali’s statement that the motion to cut ties with DAP was not a final decision and still had to be validated by the Shura Council and the party central committee. — The Malaysian Insider
