KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Swab tests will not be conducted on those attending the next parliamentary meeting on July 13, said Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Nevertheless, Parliament needs to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), such as conducting temperature checks on those entering the premises and having them wear face masks.

“We will not swab (take a swab of) everyone; we will only swab those who have symptoms,” he said during the daily briefing today on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

The next parliamentary meeting is scheduled to sit for 25 days from July 13 to Aug 27.

On another note, Noor Hisham also reiterated what Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said earlier today, that only foreign workers with Employment Pass 1 (EP1) visas are allowed to enter Malaysia as long as they take swab tests and undergo the mandatory two-week home quarantine on arrival as part of the SOPs set up by the MoH.

The MoH is also considering allowing foreign students to enter the country by following the same procedures, he said.

Noor Hisham was responding to questions from reporters regarding Sabah's decision to open its doors again to foreign workers from China to jump-start the state's construction sector, which had stalled due to the imposition of the movement control order (MCO).

Earlier today, Ismail Sabri said the Sabah’s government decision was not discussed with the federal government, and that only foreign workers with EP1 visas are allowed to enter the country.
