(Oct 23): The 2016 budget will not help revive the country's economy, said PKR's Mohamed Azmin Ali, adding that the financial plan does not indicate any solutions to the economic headwinds faced by the country.

The PKR deputy president asked how Putrajaya would revive the economy if its management expenditure still formed the bulk of the budget.

"This budget does not show the solution because we see the development budget is still too small compared with the budget that was tabled previously.

"Secondly, there are no steps mentioned in the budget to solve leakages and corruption that have a negative effect on the country's economy.

"I do not believe this budget can help revive the country's economy in the near future based on the steps announced earlier," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby after the tabling of Budget 2016 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He also said the budget was meant for the Sarawak elections, which has to be called by next year.

“I think that is quite clear, crystal clear, that this budget is meant for the elections in Sarawak,” he said.

He slammed the budget, saying it did not mention Putrajaya's plans to tackle leakage and wastage. – The Malaysian Insider
