KUALA LUMPUR (April 12): The total number of Covid-19 cases in red zones has increased to 3,436 as at noon yesterday, although there were no new additions to the list of red zones.

Since last Monday (April 6), eight health districts have been categorised as red zones as the number of infections in those districts exceeded 40.

Lembah Pantai is still the district with the highest number of cases at 459, followed by Hulu Langat (378), where seven villages are currently under enhanced movement control order (EMCO), and Petaling (335). At Lembah Pantai, there were 210 new confirmed cases since April 1, which is about 12% of 1,764 new cases confirmed in the country.

By state, the infection count in Selangor's red zones totalled 1,113, accounting for 32% of the country's total Covid-19 positive cases in the red zones.

Besides Hulu Langat, Petaling and Lembah Pantai, the red zones in Klang Valley with cases exceeding 100 are Klang (169), Gombak (125), Kepong (119) and Titiwangsa (112).

The other red zones with more than 100 confirmed cases are Kuching (215), Seremban (213), Kluang (183) and Johor Bahru (176).

In East Malaysia, there are three red zones, namely Kuching, Tawau (70) and Kota Samarahan (47).

Yesterday, Malaysia saw a total of 184 new cases, a higher increase compared to 118 in the preceding day.

This brought the country’s total infections to 4,530 — the highest so far in Asean, followed by Philippines (4,428) and Indonesia (3,842), Thailand (2,518) and Singapore (2,299).

Meanwhile, the total number of cured cases climbed further to 1,995, which is 44% of the total infections. However, the daily recoveries figure was lower at 165 yesterday versus 222 on Friday.
