(Sept 23): Police see no need to call Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in for questioning over his attendance and remarks made at the Bersih 4 rally in August, the deputy inspector-general of police said today.

Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the status of the investigation into the rally at the moment did not require them to record Dr Mahathir’s statement.

“We conduct investigations based on police reports lodged, and then we will record the witnesses, if there is a need to do so.

“At the moment, I am not sure of the status of investigations, but if there is a need, we will call for further action,” Noor Rashid said at a press conference after an event at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur.

IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had previously said police would question Dr Mahathir over his statements made at the rally on August 29 and 30.

Dr Mahathir had turned up on both days and had made remarks about removing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from power.

Khalid had then said that the focus of investigations would be into allegations made by Dr Mahathir that Umno division leaders had received bribes. – The Malaysian Insider
