KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): There is no need for the the Auditor General's audit report on embattled state fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) to made public, as the report is specifically for Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

"In view that the Auditor General's report on 1MDB is specifically for the PAC and the PAC has discussed on the report before the PAC tabled its report to the Parliament, therefore there is no need for the Auditor General's report on 1MDB to be disclosed to the public," Azalina said in a written reply to Marang MP Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Abdul Hadi has asked the Prime Minister to state the government's action on the recommendations that have been submitted by the PAC in the 1MDB Governance Management Control Report, and when the National Audit Department regarding 1MDB issue will be made public.

Azalina  said that the government also took note on the recommendation by the PAC in the report and will take necessary actions.

In a separate question by Raub MP Datuk Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz on the basis to classified the AG report under Official Secrets Act 1972, Azalina said that ‎this was to ensure no information is leak when PAC is conducting its proceedings on this issue.

The Auditor General's final audit report has been presented to the PAC last year, and the findings of the report were cited in the PAC's report tabled on April 7 to the Parliament. However, the AG report was not tabled together.

The opposition has expressed disappointment that the AG report was not tabled and deemed the PAC report incomplete.

The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia had on April 8 said that the report was not tabled because it was classified as Official Secrets, as the report was made specifically for PAC.
