KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 24): Italian luxury automobile brand Maserati sees better sales growth in Malaysia, which currently lags behind other regional peers, said Maserati South East Asia Pacific's general manager Amaury La Fonta.

The expected growth in sales volume, said La Fonta, will be aided by the introduction of the new Maserati Levante S sport utility vehicle (SUV).

"[Maserati's market in Malaysia] has the potential to grow further, especially with the introduction of the Levante S. In terms of sales volume, we are hoping to see three digits soon," he told theedgemarkets.com during the launch ceremony today.

"At the moment, [Maserati's market] in the region is growing 50% year-on-year. Malaysia, however, is not quite there yet although I am confident with Naza Italia's efforts in getting the Levante, which is the best car in the market in its category, out there, we will be able to catch up," he said.

Naza Italia Sdn Bhd, a company under the Naza Group Of Companies, is the official importer and distributor for Maserati in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Naza Italia's chief operating officer Farid Sulaiman told reporters the company's focus and strategy going forward not only centres on car sales but also on improving its after-sales process and services.

"We (Maserati) are a very niche brand, and we are not competing with others. We have our own philosophy and beliefs when it comes to selling our cars. So in terms of market share, we are not comparable to other players as we target certain and specific groups of customers," Farid said.

"In expanding our business, we will enhance our after-sales service centre, which we actually recently renovated, further. We want to pursue further expansion in the northern and southern regions," he added.

Naza Italia recently spent RM5 million to upgrade its service centre in Petaling Jaya. The newly-renovated facility is the country's only authorised service centre for Ferrari — another luxury Italian brand which the company markets.

The petrol-powered twin-turbocharged Levante S was launched today, with a starting price of RM788,800 including tax and duties.

"With the Levante S, we would love to approach the luxury SUV lovers. We are aiming for people who want to be different and stand out from the crowd, with different tastes in automobiles and with money," Farid said.
