SINCE the advent of camera phones, self portraits or “selfies” have taken the world by storm, helmed mostly by teenagers and young adults. The latest company to jump on this bandwagon is none other than giant camera-maker, Nikon.

It has launched two new models, the Nikon D750 and the Coolpix S6900, both of which are designed to appeal to needs of amateur photographers, the latter specifically targeted at “selfie” addicts. The new 24.3 Megapixel Nikon D750 is the smallest and lightest Nikon full-frame camera to deliver incredible image quality in an ideal package of enriched features. The innovative model challenges the common assumption that the higher a DSLR’s specifications, the bulkier it becomes.

Aimed at a discerning audience, the entry-level full-frame DSLR Nikon D750 is a camera with similar full-scale features and performance as those in the high-end range to offer photographers the room to expand their capabilities and hone their photography skills. In addition to upgraded photo-taking capabilities, the D750 also sports the ability to capture smooth, cinematic Full HD videos — all within an 836gm package.

On the other hand, the enthusiast-level Nikon Coolpix S6900 is an ideal companion for those looking to capture beautiful selfies. It features a range of creative functions in a compact, stylish design. Selfie lovers will appreciate this portable camera that can capture memories to share with friends and family at home or on the road, and at a higher quality than that offered by regular mobile devices.

The very affordable Coolpix S6900 also comes equipped with cutting-edge software editing features such as Glamour retouch; with 12 types of beauty and make-up effects, and a built-in WiFi function, making it easier than ever to capture beautiful self-portraits and share them on social media.

The vari-angle touchscreen is the main highlight of the Coolpix S6900; it’s a 3-inch swivel screen that can be rotated so that selfies can be taken while looking at the screen.

The Nikon D750 retails at RM6,998 while the Coolpix S6900 retails at RM899. Both can be purchased at major photography and camera outlets nationwide.
