KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): CIMB Group Holdings Bhd's chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak has called on leaders from both sides of the political divide, as well as all related political institutions, to reunite the people after the 14th general election (GE14), which will be held tomorrow, May 9.

In an Instagram post hashtagged #fairvoting today, Nazir, who describes himself as a semi-retired banker, noted that there has been a lot of "divisive rhetoric" during the campaigning period, which he believes will inevitably result in emotions running high.

While he reminded Malaysians that everyone must vote, he also stressed that the country's institutions "MUST ensure the integrity of the ballot process", and that the people "MUST accept the results".

"Winners must not take everything and losers must not lose everything — that is fundamental for democracy to function. After tomorrow, leaders on all sides and our institutions must bring us together again as one people," he added.

The Instagram post also featured a quote from Larry J Sabato, an American political scientist and author, which reads: "Every election is determined by the people who show up."
