KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): The government will unveil the National Transport Policy (NTP) — a blueprint for the transport sector for 2019 to 2030 — on Thursday, Oct 17.

The NTP's vision is to develop a sustainable transport sector that accelerates economic growth and supports the wellbeing of the rakyat in line with an advanced nation status.

"This is the first time we have a strategic plan for the transport sector," said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar at a media briefing on the NTP here today.

The NTP, covering air, land and sea transport, will be driven by five policy thrusts and 23 strategies.

The first policy thrust aims to strengthen the governance to create a conducive environment for the transport sector.

The second is to optimize, build and maintain transport infrastructure, services and networks to maximize efficiency.

The third is to enhance safety, integration, connectivity and accessibility for seamless journey.

The fourth is to advance towards a green transport ecosystem and the fifth is to expand the global footprint and promote the internationalization of transport services.

The NTP will be launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
