Najib_Pic_FD_10july2015_TMIKUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) yesterday vowed that he will ensure the truth about himself and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) will emerge, even as a special task force probes into claims that billions of ringgit had been channelled into his personal accounts.

“Don’t listen to nonsense. There is too much nonsense on social media. Don’t listen to it all. Not all of it is true. We will ensure that the truth will emerge in the end.

“If [they] say billions of ringgit from 1MDB have disappeared, listen to the Auditor-General’s report and find out if it is true or not.

“I don’t want to make any announcements, let him do it,” Najib said in a speech after breaking fast at the Salahuddin Al-Ayubi mosque in Taman Melati here yesterday.

He said this shortly after reminding Malaysians on the virtues of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid, the goods and services tax and the mass rapid transit project.

Najib also announced a RM290 million project to construct 11 multilevel car parks for the People’s Housing Project in the federal territory.

“If we take care of the people, they will take care of us,” he said, to applause and cheers from the crowd.

Najib reiterated that as the prime minister, he would not take what rightfully belongs to the people, adding that the government is sincere in its efforts to serve the people.

He said he had introduced many changes to ensure the people’s needs were met, and cited as an example his decision to flout protocol at events, so that he could speak to local representatives.

“Among the changes I’ve made, when I go to events, I do not follow protocol. When I sit down to eat, I prioritise the local representatives.

“When I get to meet them and talk to them, even briefly, I am able to understand the problems faced by the area and strengthen our ties,” said Najib.

Last Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported nearly US$700 million (RM2.65 billion) was moved among government agencies, banks and entities linked to 1MDB, before finally ending up in the prime minister’s personal accounts in five separate deposits.

Najib has refuted the allegations, saying they are a political ploy engineered by his opponents, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. — The Malaysian Insider
