KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 10): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said expenses for official visits and events by him and his Cabinet colleagues should be reduced in line with the government's austerity drive.

He said during a recent working visit, he observed that there were expenses that could be reduce or avoided.

"I am grateful for all the preparations to welcome me. I understand that there are protocols that need to be followed, but wherever possible, we should avoid preparations such as red carpets, special meals and so on.

"Our main focus is the people, not protocols," he said in his latest post on his blog, najibrazak.com.
Najib said at the Cabinet's first meeting this year on January 6, he reminded ministers to spend the provided allocations wisely.

The prime minister said each of his working visit was aimed at meeting the people, listening to their grouses and finding solutions together.

"Thank God, I can see that the people are accepting the approach so that their problems get the attention and get solved as soon as possible," he said, adding that within two years, he launched many events and made working visits throughout the country. - Bernama
