KUALA LUMPUR (May 27): Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar will be ending his tenure as senator and Minister in the Prime Minister (PM)'s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit on June 4.

A statement from the PM's department revealed that Wahid had only wanted to serve a term when he accepted his appointment in 2013.

"I accept YB Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid's decision to return to the corporate sector, as was agreed in 2013. Nevertheless, Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid will remain as a member of the Economic Council that I chair every week," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the same statement.

Najib added he had announced the decision to the cabinet today and thanked Wahid for his service and contribution.

"I am confident YB Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid will continue to contribute towards efforts to develop the country," he added.

Prior to his appointment as Minister in the PM's department, Wahid was appointed as senator on June 5, 2013.
