(April 10): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has issued a letter of demand against Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming over a Facebook posting, deemed as defamatory about his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

The letter of demand stated that Nga's posting on March 29, with a picture titled, "Siapa PM M'sia yang Sebenar? Jawab!", (Who is the real prime minister? Answer!), which had been reproduced and shared in social media, was "defamatory" and "slanderous".

Najib, in the letter sent by legal firm Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, made seven demands, including that Nga issues and publishes a written apology and retract the statement, to desist from making further similar statements, and compensation for the injury and damage caused.

The letter noted that Nga's posting indicated that Najib was not competent to be prime minister, that he had been dominated by his wife, that Rosmah had intervened in meetings with ministers and that Najib had misused his position as prime minister.

The letter, signed by Najib’s lawyer, Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, said that the posting by Nga, who is also Taiping MP, amounted to a "very serious slander" and had caused them tremendous distress and embarrassment.

"Our clients wish to put on record that the statement had been published and viewed by followers in your Facebook account with 3,697 likes and 2,366 shared of the status.

"Accordingly, these entirely baseless and false allegations made by you are with the primary intention of attacking and damaging our clients' goodwill and reputation for no justifiable reason. In doing so, you are/were acting with malice."

The lawyers also said that Najib would initiate legal proceedings against Nga should the DAP lawmaker refuse to provide a satisfactory response to the letter and continues to publish the statement.

The letter was sent to Nga's office in Taiping today.

Nga, in a text message to The Malaysian Insider over the matter, said that he has instructed his lawyer to act on the letter.

Najib has recently initiated a slew of legal action against opposition lawmakers and media agencies over articles and postings about a myriad of issues including 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The prime minister had recently sued Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua over his "defamatory” remarks against him on November 3 last year about 1MDB, which caused him “tremendous stress and embarrassment”.

Najib had also sued news portal Malaysiakini over its readers’ comments on his handling of the political impasse in Terengganu.

He was also reported to be initiating legal action against PAS party organ Harakahdaily over a report that linked his stepson to the controversial 1MDB.

The report said that the letter of demand was handed over to Harakahdaily's managing editor Dr Rosli Yaakub at 3pm today.
