KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 7): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today openly thanked Tun Abdullah Badawi for learning "to let go" in his retirement days after handing over his duties as prime minister.

Najib's speech at the Graduation ceremony of the GLC Transformation Programme this morning appeared to be a hit at former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been critical lately of Najib's leadership and 1MDB issues.

"When I became the prime minister in 2009, the GLC Transformation Programme or GLCT Programme, which was begun by Tun Abdullah Badawi, had already achieved considerable success.

"I would like to offer my heartiest congratulations to Tun Abdullah Badawi for having initiated this programme and also in retirement he has learnt to let go and become supportive of this successor," he said, referring to himself in his keynote address that was attended by all the leaders of government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs) in the country.

To this Najib received a round of applause from the floor.

Today GLICs and GLCs graduated from the 10-year GLC Transformation Programme. The programme was officially launched on July 29, 2005.
