KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who returned to Malaysia after a two-week overseas trip today, said he would focus on Budget 2016.

In a Twitter message posted at 9.37am today, Najib said that he arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

"I had been overseas for two weeks for official matters. My next focus is Budget 2016," he said.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, will be tabling the Budget 2016 on Oct 23 in Parliament. This will be the sixth Budget he will be tabling since he took the premiership in 2009.

According to Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni, this coming Budget will be bigger than last year with more allocations for development expenditure, as 2016 marks the beginning of the 11th Malaysia Plan.

Najib had attended the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and gave an address and pledged Malaysia's support in combating militant terrorism, such as Islamic States (IS) and peacekeeping.

It was also reported that he met United States fund managers to urge them to ignore the "noise" in Malaysia in relation to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and look instead at the real fundamentals of the country's resilient economy.
