<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be sent back to Kajang Prison to carry out his imprisonment as soon as the Cheras Rehabilitation Centre (HRC) or Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) specialists have medically cleared him.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>In a statement on Wednesday (Sept 21), the Prisons Department said that on Sept 12, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered for Najib to be taken to the hospital for treatment.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>It said by virtue of Section 37 of the Prisons Act as well as the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Mandela Rules), it had sent Najib to HKL for specialist treatment.</p></div><div class=inPageAd id=div-gpt-ad-inpage></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>It said HKL then on Sept 19 referred the ex-premier to HRC for treatment and observation.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>The department said Najib will be sent back to Kajang Prison as soon as the HRC and HKL officials give him medical clearance.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>It added that as the authority exercising responsibilities under the Prisons Act, the department&nbsp;is also mandated to ensure the optimal health of prison inmates, and ensure the availability of healthcare and medicines prescribed by government medical officers.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Najib is currently serving his 12 years jail,&nbsp;after being convicted on all seven charges in his SRC International Sdn Bhd case. He was also given a RM210 million fine.</p></div>

CIMB Thai Bank PCL’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024 (1QFY2024) dropped 24.6% year-on-year to 626.1 million baht from 830.1 million baht, as it reported lower operating income and higher expenses.  

The group recorded an 8.4% drop in operating income and an 11.8% increase in operating expenses. The effects of these were partially offset by a 36.9% decline in expected credit loss, according to CIMB Thai president and chief executive officer Paul Wong Chee Kin in a statement.
