KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 9): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said members of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) board of directors and its chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy had met former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to explain the company's true situation, Bernama reported.

The prime minister said he had never made any clarification on 1MDB to Dr Mahathir as the matter was never raised by the former prime minister when they met.

Bernama quoted Najib as saying this in an interview with Hamdan Ahmir in a special edition of TV3's "Soal Jawab" programme tonight.

In the interview, Najib said he had instructed the Auditor-General to independently verify 1MDB accounts and check whether its fund had been used to finance a movie.

Riza, the son of Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor from her earlier marriage, made headlines last year after he was revealed to be a producer of the award-winning movie "The Wolf of Wall Street".

Asked why he raised the filmmaking issue, Najib said, "Such allegations had surfaced. I'm not defending anything just because it involves a member of my family, but I want the Auditor-General to verify this."

On whether he had asked 1MDB management to be more transparent in future transactions, he said he had done so, Bernama reported.
