KUALA LUMPUR (April 14): Nak Beli, an e-commerce marketplace powered by MyEG Services Bhd, is introducing a new food service platform called Nak Makan to sell freshly cooked meals and food products online.

The platform will initiate three phases that will address different elements of the fasting month and subsequent Eid festivities.

For the platform’s first phase, it will host a Ramadan e-Bazaar where vendors in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor can list their offerings on Nak Makan’s website for sale during the fasting month.

“This initiative is introduced since Ramadan bazaars will not be operating while the Movement Control Order is still in force,” the company said in a statement.

According to MyEG, the Ramadan e-Bazaar aims to support local food vendors who may not have the IT know-how by providing them with an avenue to market their goods during the fasting month and generate a source of income.

Vendors will be able to operate from their own premises, while Nak Makan’s delivery partner MrSpeedy will collect and deliver the food to customers.

The platform will not be collecting deposits to list on the platform or use their delivery partner.

“With the recent turn of events, online shopping is now becoming the new norm but there still exists a digital divide for vendors who do not know how to get online. For these small, independent vendors, Nak Makan will facilitate their move into the digital space by holding their hand every step of the way, and it is only a matter of time before they embrace this new way of doing business,” MyEG said.

In the pipeline for phases two and three are new initiatives such as e-Sahur — where customers can order their pre-dawn meal — and e-Raya — where traders and vendors can hawk festive goods that include clothes, accessories and home décor.

Shares in MyEG closed up 4 sen or 4.12% to RM1.01 apiece, with 49.52 million shares traded. It has a market capitalisation of RM3.49 billion.
