KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 28): The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) confirmed today Datuk Seri Mohd Hishamudin Md Yunus's appointment as its chairman.

The MyCC also announced in a statement of Datuk Mohd Jamal Sulaiman's appointment as commission member.

"According to the Competition Commission Act 2010, the chairman and member of the commission are appointed by the prime minister on advice of the minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs," the MyCC said.

Earlier today, law firm Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill said in a statement that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has appointed Mohd Hishamudin as chairman of the MyCC.

According to the statement, Mohd Hishamudin, who is former Court of Appeal judge, is a consultant at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill. 

"The presentation ceremony of the letter of appointment by YB Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, was held at the Ministry at Putrajaya this [yesterday, Sept 27] evening. Appointed under the Competition Commission Act 2010 (Act 713), the appointment took effect on 5th September 2018, replacing Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh who came on board in 2017. 

"Datuk Seri Hishamudin will serve his term for a period of three years," Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill said.
