(Oct 26): Former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is "free to do what he wants" in his criticism of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said today.

The Umno veteran said that it is up to "others" to judge whether Muhyiddin was right in ramping up his criticisms against 1MDB despite still being Umno deputy president.

"He is free to do whatever he wants. It is up to others to judge," Razaleigh told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today.

"He is the deputy president. He should know better," he added.

Fondly known as Ku Li, he also said that opinions expressed in a closed forum does not necessarily have to stay there.

Earlier today, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said that Muhyiddin should express his concerns within the party and not publicly.

"What you say among yourselves is not necessarily confined to only a few. It is a free country and and we have fought for independence," he said.

Muhyiddin on Saturday ramped up his criticisms of 1MDB in a public speech at a Sinar Harian and Karangkraf-organised forum in Johor Baru.

Among others, he questioned the need for investigations into 1MDB to be "disturbed" if there was indeed no wrongdoing in the transactions. – The Malaysian Insider
