KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): Mudajaya Group Bhd’s large scale solar photovoltaic power plant project in Sungai Siput, Perak achieved commercial operation date on Tuesday, as endorsed by Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Energy Commission of Malaysia.

The project is expected to generate recurring income to the group for the next 21 years, the group said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

Mudajaya said the project was awarded to its wholly-owned unit Sinar Kamiri Sdn Bhd in December 2016, through a competitive bidding conducted by the Energy Commission.

“Sinar Kamiri will sell power generated to TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) under a 21-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that was signed with TNB on March 16, 2017,” it added.

“The solar plant has a net minimum export capacity of 49MW alternating current (ac) to the grid, which is currently one of the largest solar projects in Malaysia,” the group said, adding that the plant’s annual allowable export energy under the PPA is up to 85 million kilowatt per hours.

Mudajaya said the plant will save the environment from approximately 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission annually, that might otherwise be created from fossil fuel power generation.

Mudajaya’s share price closed unchanged at 34.5 sen today, for a market capitalisation of RM203.51 million.
