KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): Malaysia reported 184 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today. The daily new case figure is higher compared with yesterday’s 118 cases. This brings the country's total infections to 4,530 — the highest so far in Asean, followed by Philippines (4,428) and Indonesia (3,842). 

Meanwhile, the total number of cured cases climbed further to 1,995, which is 44% of the total infections. However, the daily recoveries figure was lower at 165 today versus 222 yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). 

The death toll rose to 73 with three new deaths reported.

To date, a total of 72 cases are being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), of which 38 cases require respiratory assistance. 

The 71st death, or patient no 3,091, was a Malaysian man, aged 66, with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and gout.

Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told the media today the deceased had close contact with the 452nd case from the Seri Petaling cluster. He was admitted to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Negeri Sembilan on April 1 and passed away at 12pm today.

The 72nd death, or the 537th case, was a 71-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, who was treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, on March 15 and was confirmed dead today at 11.15am.

The 73rd death, or patient no 2,399, was a 63-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure. He was treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak, on March 25 and died at 12pm today.
