KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) chief executive officer (CEO) Abdul Yazid Kassim is said to be leaving the company, with Sapura Secured Technologies CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim set to take over his position, according to sources.

Abdul Yazid, a former project director of Malakoff Corp Bhd, was appointed as CEO on Feb 1, 2019, under the previous Pakatan Harapan government, replacing Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.

His replacement, Mohd Zarif, joined Sapura Group in 2007 as the programme director for the government integrated radio network and was later appointed as CEO of Sapura Secured Technologies in 2011.

He was also appointed as the chief operating officer for the Sapura Group in August 2013.

Prior to joining the Sapura Group, he also served as head of corporate planning and business evaluation unit at Pos Malaysia Bhd and was promoted to chief operating officer of the logistics group.

Abdul Yazid’s departure comes amid a number of changes at the top of government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs), following the change in government in March.

Among them were the resignation of Permodalan Nasional Bhd group CEO and president Jalil Rasheed as well as Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) president and CEO Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, who is headed to Malaysia Airlines Bhd as chairman.
