KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): Kepong Member of Parliament-elect Lim Lip Eng has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) today, asking for an investigation into 64 land deals that took place under the purview of former Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

When met with reporters after lodging his report at the MACC office today, Lim explained these 64 parcels of land were sold by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur between 2013 to 2018, under the purview of Tengku Adnan.

Less than half of these transactions were for public housing under Rumah Wilayah Persekutuan (Rumah WIP), while a majority was for high end residential developments, Lim added.

“Mostly all of these land deals were done without an open tender and below market price, and a significant number these parcels that were sold involved vacant land, meaning if the developer were to put up any residential developments, they would have to pay a [land conversion] premium and development charge to DBKL.

“However, we have come to understand that a majority of these developers did not pay the premium and development charge, but were still allowed to proceed with the development. Some of them have even collected the 10% deposit from housebuyers.

“All this is wrong, so we have asked for MACC to investigate Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan [The Federal Territories Foundation], as the ownership of some of these parcels of land were changed to the Foundation, and then were sold to the developers.

“So we want MACC to raid the Foundation’s office, so that complete documentations [pertaining to the sale of the parcels of land] are obtained, and we also want MACC to raid the offices of the developers who were involved in these land transactions, in particular the ones who did not go through proper procedures to purchase the land,” Lim said.

Segambut MP-elect Hannah Yeoh, who was also present, said she would also be lodging a report to MACC today against the Federal Territories Foundation, pertaining to the much disputed Taman Rimba Kiara development which has drawn the ire of Taman Tun Dr Ismail residents.

“We are not against the provision for public housing, but we think that for far too long, a vehicle like the Federal Territories Foundation uses housing as excuse for them to do deals like this. We already have a housing ministry, why have so many separate vehicles [when it comes to housing]? There is no need for duplication of work. MACC must act immediately,” Yeoh said.

Meanwhile, Lim called for projects relating to these 64 pieces of land, which have not started work, to be halted.

“However, we are not calling for a stop on public housing projects such as Rumah WIP, which are completed or halfway completed, as these are projects that would benefit the Rakyat,” Lim said.

The 64 plots of land, totalling some 424.29 acres, were reported to be sold for a total value of RM4.28 billion.
