KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 11): Further details about the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid transit System project will be revealed "within the next few weeks", said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

“The Finance Minister has indicated that the Government is supportive of the project. We are now in the midst of discussions. I will make an announcement on the RTS very soon, within the next few weeks, because the extension of the suspension of the agreement is until Oct 31 this year,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby today, following the tabling of Budget 2020.

In his Budget 2020 speech, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said as part of a longer term solution to address the congestion at the Johor Causeway, the Government intends to proceed with the RTS project. However, he did not elaborate on the matter.

Last month, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) announced that the RTS project suspension will be extended until end-October.

The Singapore Government previously agreed to suspend the construction of the project until Sept 30, at the request of the Malaysian Government, which wanted more time to decide whether to proceed with the project or propose changes to it.
