KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): The Malaysian public is assured that the Ministry of Health will not slow down Covid-19 testing although the increase in new cases in the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas has shown signs of decelerating in the past one week.

The areas where the EMCO has been enforced, for instance Menara City One and Selangor Mansion, reported single-digit increases today, while some localities have zero cases.

“We will also be carrying out repeat testing after two weeks in these (EMCO) areas. Be assured that there is no slowing down in our testing activities,” said health director-general (DG) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at the Ministry of Health’s daily press conference today.

According to Noor Hisham, the confirmed cases in the EMCO localities, namely Menara City One, Malayan Mansion, Selangor Mansion, as well as the wholesale market near Selayang, are related to the Sri Petaling tabligh assembly cluster. Some residents in these areas attended the assembly at Seri Petaling between Feb 27 and March 1.

“We are monitoring these clusters closely and have imposed the EMCO in those areas, while testing is being done,” he added.

Menara Plaza City One saw one new infection, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 54, of which four cases are foreign workers.

There was one death at the locality.

Selangor Mansion also saw one new case, bringing the total to 168 confirmed cases. Of the total, 151 cases are foreign workers.

Malayan Mansion did not see any new cases, with the total confirmed cases standing at 12, of which 10 are foreign workers.

Meanwhile, the locality comprising the northern part of the city centre and the wholesale market saw five new cases, translating into a total of 74 cases. Of the total, 55 are foreign workers. There was one death at the locality.

Other EMCO areas, namely Bandar Baru Ibrahim Majid in Johor and Kampung Sungai Lui in Selangor, saw no new cases, and therefore the total remains at 193 and 157 respectively.

The Selayang Baru locality saw no change either, with a total of one case.

The DG also provided updates on the different clusters that are not located in EMCO areas.

The Sarawak church gathering cluster saw an additional four new cases, bringing the total to 170 cases, while the Kuching medical personnel cluster saw one new case, bringing the total to 53 cases.

The Chow Kit Market cluster saw one new case as well, bringing the total to 11 cases.

For the Seri Petaling mosque gathering cluster, a total of 32,122 samples have been collected, with 2,155 testing positive, up by 17 cases.

Screening for the Covid-19 virus has been conducted at 311 madrasah and tahfiz schools. A total of 15,120 individuals have been identified for testing. The healthcare workers have taken 6,838 samples from them, of whom 372 individuals tested positive.
