KUALA LUMPUR (June 7): The Ministry of Health (MoH) will continue its surveillance of Covid-19 in Malaysia during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period from June 10 to Aug 31.

During a Q&A session at the MoH’s daily briefing on Covid-19 case numbers in Malaysia, MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the government’s decision to implement the RMCO, which will see more activities being allowed, came from the MoH.

“We think that our success in the movement control order (MCO), conditional movement control order (CMCO) and now the RMCO will balance the life and livelihood of our country.

"Although we are allowing the RMCO, surveillance will continue to identify cases. We are doing the surveillance and action plan, and we hope we can report every day in terms of a surge in cases, in terms of a locality and target group,” he said.

Noor Hisham added that the most important aspect of the RMCO is monitoring and surveillance, adding that there is a need to ensure that locally transmitted cases are controlled.

Border controls are still tight at the moment, he added, and will not be opened as part of the RMCO. 

“If we can control [infections] locally come Aug 31, probably our plan is to prepare to ease the restrictions on our international borders. This is a part of our exit strategy, a soft landing. We have not moved on to the exit strategy yet, but this a soft landing using Act 342 (the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988),” he said.
